What is butterfly pea tea and why does it change color?

Butterfly Pea Tea is brewed from the flowers of the blue pea (Clitoria ternatea) and produces a deep blue to purple tea. The special thing: If you add some lemon juice, the color changes from blue to pink or purple due to the altered pH value. This makes it an eye-catcher for cocktails, mocktails, and tea ceremonies. Karl Müller & Co. offers Butterfly Pea as one of the specialties in its tea range.

Which tea helps you fall asleep?

Classic nighttime remedies include chamomile (relaxing, mildly calming), valerian (more strongly sedative), lavender (calming, aromatic) and lemon balm (anxiety-reducing, sleep-promoting). Ashwagandha tea is also traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine to reduce stress. Karl Müller & Co. stocks several of these herbs individually and as a blend. Important: Tea is not a substitute for medical treatment for serious sleep disorders.

What is the difference between herbal tea and true tea?

True tea (black, green, white, oolong) always comes from the tea plant Camellia sinensis and contains caffeine. Herbal tea is an infusion made from other plant parts – flowers, leaves, roots, fruits – and is usually caffeine-free. The term 'herbal tea' is therefore a culinary, not a botanical, designation. The range at Karl Müller & Co. includes both – clearly labeled.

How long should tea steep?

Green tea: 2 to 3 minutes at 70 to 80 °C (not with boiling water!). Black tea: 3 to 5 minutes at 95 °C. Herbal tea: 5 to 10 minutes at 95 to 100 °C – depending on the desired strength. Steeping green tea for too long makes it bitter; herbal tea can withstand longer steeping times. The ideal temperature and time are indicated on the respective Karl Müller & Co. packaging.

What is ashwagandha tea and what are its effects?

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a medicinal plant from Ayurvedic medicine that has been used in India for over 3,000 years. Prepared as a tea, it is considered an adaptogen—a plant that is believed to help the body better cope with stress. Studies suggest a possible effect on cortisol levels and sleep quality, although research is still ongoing. The taste is earthy and slightly bitter—often combined with ginger or honey. Karl Müller & Co. carries ashwagandha as a single herb in its tea range.
